The Rundown: Lupita Nyong’o for Lucky Magazine, NBA Has First Fashion Show, and Chic Sketch is the Coolest Fashion App Ever
I’ve said it before and I will continue to scream it to the mountain top, Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely gorgeous. Her smile is electric and her style is impeccable (don’t you want to raid her closet).
Lupita Nyong’o Talks Style and Fame in Lucky Magazine March 2015
Her bright smile and fab style is on full display in Lucky Magazine. The Oscar award winner is the cover girl for the magazine’s March issue. Lupita posed in a multi-colored striped Balmain skirt set and a finished her look with a metallic gold lip. Fab, right?
Sweeties, the cover is just the beginning, inside is full slayage! The “Fashion It” girl posed in bright colors and fun prints by designers like Michael Kors , Victoria Beckham, and Juan Carlos Obando.
The Kenyan beauty dished on her career , handling her new found fame and she even spilled some of her beauty secrets.
The Lancôme beauty ambassador also revealed she couldn’t wear makeup until she was 18 years old.
“My mother has never ever worn a drop of makeup in her life—not even at her wedding,” she recalls. As a girl, Nyong’o’s only real exposure to the world of creams, sticks and shadows came via an aunt who would occasionally visit with the contraband materials and paint her face while her mother was out. “Honestly, my mother’s outlook was hard for me to take when I was a teenager and I wanted to experiment. But in the end I appreciated it, because today I can look in a mirror with no makeup on and love myself.”
Great message in the end! [Lucky]
Chic Sketch May Be the Best New Fashion App
So I’ve tried a lot of apps, but never have I anticipated the release of one. Sweeties, I checked the app store waiting on the release of Chic Sketch and finally its here. This app has to be the coolest thing ever. Your #OOTD pics could be turned into beautiful sketches. You know the kind of sketches reserved for style stars like Rihanna and Olivia Palermo.
Here’s how it works: Your uploaded pic will be sent to a team of illustrators who will creates a drool worthy sketch of your picture.
Each illustration is custom made and we all know one of a kind comes at a price. The app is free, but each sketch is $9.99. The only downfall is the turnaround time. In a gotta have right now kind world we want things instantly, but these sketches could take hours or longer to get back. It’s understandable though, these sketches are drawn by real people, not a machine.
Sweeties, what do you think? Will you be submitting a picture for a sketch? [Chic Sketch]
Oscar De La Renta Gets a NYC Street Named in His Honor
Fashion icon Oscar de la Renta is being remembered in New York City in a special way. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the city will name a street after the late designer.
What street and when the name change will happen is still unclear at this time. Blasio used his time at Tuesday’s announcement to honor de la Renta work and his contribution to fashion.
The legendary fashion designer died last October. He was 82 years old. [Fashionista]
NBA Gets First Fashion Show
NBA ball players have been bringing more than their A-game to the court. Their fashion game is also on full display, especially when it comes to trendsetters like Russell Westbrook. Because of the high fashion IQ in the NBA it’s only fitting that the league has its first fashion show.
Because these guys are natural born competitors, this fashion show is also a competition with three rounds: dressing for the boardroom, a night out and attire worn to the game.
The competition will start with eight players, including all-Stars James Harden, Klay Thompson and DeMarcus Cousins. Four players will advance to the second round and the top two will compete in the finals. The LeBron James’ produced fashion show will air Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. EST on TNT. [NBA]
