Healthy Hair Journey: Goodbye Weave, Hello Natural Hair

If you follow Ooh La La Blog on Twitter then you know I recently removed my weave for GOOD! It was so hard to say goodbye to my long, bone straight, and manageable hair. I’m not kidding at several points through the process I wanted to turn back and get this hair sewn up again, but I stuck to my guns. So I removed the weave, now what am I suppose to do? I can’t wear my hair curly because I’m suppose to look polish on air and big curls aren’t necessarily the polished  look they expect to see on the 6 O’clock news.  So I spent my entire Saturday trying to get my hair camera ready.  Keep in mind I’m relaxer free and have been since February 2010. Check out my process. I tried to document as much as I could.

After removing the weave I washed and deep conditioned  my hair with Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo and conditioner.

I blow dried and flat ironed my hair, which took more than three hours.

Imagine my surprise when my hair turned out straight. I thought I was on the road to bouncing and behaving.

But after 15 minutes outside Sunday afternoon my hair looked like this…..sigh.

What can I do to make sure my hair  looks sleek and polished? I don’t want to put a lot of heat in my hair and I don’t want to use a lot of product.  Please HELP!

You can do roller sets. Perfect for giving the hair a straight look with not much curl. You can comb it out and it will just be curled at the ends. You can look it up on youtube and see how it is done.

P.S. Your natural hair is beautiful I really don’t see why you would want to have it straightened.

Have you watched any natural hair channels? Flexi-rods are popular among the natural hair community. Watch Naptural85 youtube page. Good luck! 🙂
